I am a member of the Register of Exercise professionals registered as a Level 3 Instructor. Continued registration relies on members completing a required minimum of training each year.

My background is in working with and counselling troubled and disadvantaged children and young people.

Throughout my career I became interested in the ways in which psychological health relates to physical health.

On a personal level this meant that I consistently maintained my own fitness through swimming, yoga, walking and cycling.

I gradually became interested in the possibility of teaching in the fitness industry and in 2003 embarked on a programme of training with one of the major training providers.

After successfully qualifying as a Personal Trainer I became interested in Pilates as a method of exercise which contributes to overall well being by integrating mind and body and whose methods and principles can benefit all levels of fitness and age ranges.

I have therefore specialised in providing classes and one to one training which incorporate the key elements and principles of the Pilates Method.

I have recently successfully completed an advanced course with Modern Pilates which specialises in incorporating physiotherapy based principles into a contemporary approach to teaching Pilates to individuals and groups.

BA (Hons) in Modern Studies 1976

I regard myself as versatile in approach and can work with a full range of clients to overcome their personal difficulties. These include fears and phobias, issues of confidence and self esteem and the effects of post traumatic stress disorder. Working with teenagers is an area of my expertise given my social work background.
I have been a local authority social worker for over 25 years operating most of that time as a senior practitioner. I have particular experience working with children and families together with a professional knowledge of mental health issues.
I am working currently as a Sure Start Programme Manager and have worked with parents of young children in this capacity offering a neuro linguistic programming counselling service as part of my overall responsibilities.
Recent experience has led me to develop a specialism in dealing with emotional reactions to childbirth and related issues.

I am currently able to offer hourly sessions on Thursday evenings and Friday mornings.
